Our starting point for this excursion is the Font des Noguer, located just beyond the Cuber reservoir, 30 minutes drive from Soller.
For the first 30 minutes we follow the water channel that feeds the reservoir before entering woodland and starting our gradual ascent up through the valley towards the Coll des Prat.
Just below the Coll we take a path which circles the south western end of the peak.
From this point we follow a route up the side of the mountain that requires some scrambling over rocks and a head for heights.
A short, narrow step at the top must be navigated before finally summiting Puig Massanella, at 1365m, the second highest peak on Mallorca.
From the top we descend down the through the rocky plateau known as 'Pla de sa Neu' (plateu of snow), before reaching a holm oak forest and an earth track.
This path leads us through the estate of Coma Freda, where there is a fee payable to pass through the farmland.
From Coma Freda it is a further 30 minutes on a good path down to the Monastery at Lluc, where we stop for refreshments before returning by public bus back to our starting point and then onto Soller.
